Summary
Since maternal health is a topic listed in the UNSDGS, we can understand how compelling this issue is, globally, and to narrow it down momentarily, in Sub-Saharan Africa. A reason for the inadequate care of mothers is because of barriers to accessing health services, especially reproductive health services. These can be because of distance, cost, cultural factors, or healthcare infrastructures. To recap, we have seen that the highest MMR nearly 99% of maternal deaths occur in developing countries, with more than half in sub-Saharan Africa, where the rate stands at 525 deaths per 100,000 live births, which is why we are focusing on this specific region today. Also, insufficient maternal healthcare directly affects child health and we cannot afford to increase risks if our goal is to significantly reduce risks and increase health care and well-being globally. Raising awareness in all its forms significantly aids in mobilizing support to address challenges and results in improvements in our determined goals.
